What Goes Up, Must Come Down – A Long Way Down!
Salt pans, indigenous bushmen and desert riding
Namibia is one of the most extraordinary countries found on the African continent.
With wide (and breathtaking) horizons, contrasting landscapes and unmatched beauty, Namibia will provide motorcycle adventure riders with a unique and unforgettable experience.
It’s arid – yet pleasant – climate, clean air and clear blue skies means that you’ll be able to see the Milky Way more clearly than anywhere you’ve been before. It’s also one of the most sparsely populated countries on the planet, which makes this trip’s off-road riding all the more fun!
Beginning in the Namibian capital of Windhoek and ending in Cape Town, the journey in-between will leave riders in awe.
Riding north to the Erongo region, which is known for its vast wilderness and unspoilt landscapes, you’ll visit Omandumba – a bushman village and Namibia’s answer to the Matterhorn. Then it’s over to the crisp and clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean as you arrive in Swakopmund – a popular Afro-European coastal town that’s brimming with colonial architecture, restaurants serving incredible food and plenty to see. You’ll also get to enjoy a spot of sailing in the bay, where you’ll be able to enjoy the coastline’s birdlife.
Moving south, you’ll enter the Namib Desert, crossing the Topic of Capricorn, and stopping at Solitaire – a settlement renowned for its Apple Strudel. You’ll then ride to Sesriem, where you’ll enjoy two nights of luxury – and a sundowner drive into the desert followed by a morning desert tour of Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and Sesriem itself.
From Sesriem, you’ll ride to Helmeringhausen via a remote settlement called Betta. From there, you’ll visit Fish River Canyon, Africa’s largest canyon, via Seeheim, where only a handful of people live. At the canyon, you’ll get to experience a canyon sunset.
You’ll then head across the border to South Africa, where the next two days will be spent riding through Namaqualand, a region known for its transformation into a floral wonderland every spring.
Before reaching Cape Town, you’ll take a detour into the Cederberg Mountains before exploring the best of the Cape Peninsula, the Cape of Good Hope and, of course, Table Mountain.
Finally, you’ll hit the V&A Waterfront to enjoy some local beer and share the highlights of your trip.
